Express Entry Application & Provincial Nomination

This is the big hoorah of the first part of the process. All the IELTS, education assessments, questionnaires are needed for this part of the application. Our lawyer completed our Express Entry application, so we can't give you too much information on the format of this etc.

Basically he typed in all the information we gave him, he gave our work history codes (which the Canadian government determine) and sent off all the information required. He also used this to determine how many points we had (422, I think).

Once the application is sent off, it's really just a waiting game. Every few weeks the CIC send out a round of application invites to people within a certain point threshold. We sent off our application in November 2016 and on the 19th April 2017 we got an invitation of apply, which meant we had enough points in that invitation round.

To be honest, this happened much quicker than we thought it would!

In addition to the express entry application, our lawyer also applied for a Provincial Nomination for us. This is when you choose a province to nominate you. You can read more about this on the website. If a province does choose to nominate you, you get an extra 600 points, which basically gives you enough to be given an invitation to apply.

You don't have to apply for a provincial nomination, it just gives you an extra crack at the whip, if you will.
